Features and Program Requirements
Developed with the Alzheimer's Association
The Cares™ Late Stage Dementia Care Training Program was developed by HealthCare Interactive and the national office of the Alzheimer's Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, and research.Comprehensive content
Based on clinical research findings and using our trademarked, person-centered approach--The CARES Approach(TM), the program covers training specific to caring for a person in the late stage of dementia. The modules include:- Introduction to Dementia (a review of The CARES Approach and dementia, with an emphasis on what is happening--and how you can respond--in late stage)
- Rethinking Activities (information about making connections and changing activities as the disease progresses)
- Toileting (rationale and tips for helping residents with late-stage dementia to continue using the toilet, including identification of toileting patterns and behaviors)
Unlimited-user access: Train all staff for one low price
The CARES Late Stage Dementia Care Training Program allows you to train all your staff members (administrators, nurses, nursing aides, dietary staff, laundry staff, part-time employees, night employees, and weekend employees) at a single facility for one low monthly price. (If your organization has more than one facility or location, you need to purchase one subscription for each location offering the CARES Late Stage training.)Administrative tracking
Track the progress of each user individually and compile aggregate reports for documentation.Available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Staff can use the program on their own and at their own pace, making it particularly convenient for training night, weekend, and part-time staff members.Engaging multimedia format
The program is media rich and truly interactive. Users respond to situations, make choices, watch video clips, and become actively involved in the material—a very effective way to learn and remember information.Extremely user-friendly
Staff members without computer experience find the program very easy to use.Easy to stop and start again
The program tracks user progress, so staff can stop and exit at any time and come back right to where they left off. This optimizes opportunities for training and provides the flexibility needed to meet unplanned caregiving needs.Appropriate for classroom training, too
The many video clips, interactions, and exercises provide excellent examples for and support to instructor-led sessions. Can be used over and over
As long as the facility license is active, staff can revisit the program as often as they’d like to renew skills. Supervisors can also use the program to continually log on to give on-floor training to new staff members. Two payment options
Pay online with a credit card for immediate access. Or, print an invoice and pay by check. No contracts! Cancel at any time!
When you subscribe to CARES, there are no contracts, and you can cancel at any time. If you order the monthly subscription, at the end of each month you will be charged or invoiced for another month. To cancel your subscription, just cancel online or write "Cancel" on your invoice and return to our offices by the cancellation date.Program requirements
Our training program makes use of video (movies) and audio (sound). This typically requires a high-speed (DSL/Cable/T1/T3) connection to the Internet. If you are using the training program from work, it is likely that you are using a high-speed Internet connection. If you are using the training program from home and need to reconnect to the Internet each time you use it, you probably have a dial-up connection to the Internet and you may experience longer wait times and delays to load the audio and video. A high-speed connection is recommended for the CARES Late Stage program, but a dial-up connection will function. In addition, animations and other interactive content included in this instructional program require Flash® Player. Many web browsers come installed with Flash Player, but you may need to upgrade it from time to time as Adobe® makes improvements and as websites and online programs you use update their content. In order to ensure that you are able to take full advantage of our training programs, please install the latest version of the free Flash Player software.
