The CARES® End-of-Life Dementia Care™ Online Training Program helps the care team—including the family—understand what is happening to a person with dementia at the end of life. The CARES® Approach equips caregivers with tools and strategies to approach end-of-life care with confidence. The training covers topics such as how to provide comfort care and support to the person with dementia, as well as to family members and other individuals close to him or her. Explore these and other topics through video, audio, and interactive exercises featuring real families, real caregivers, and real dementia-care experts (no actors).
This program has 5 modules (5 hours). The modules include:
CARES® was developed with the Alzheimer’s Association, with input from a national team of experts. CARES content incorporates evidence-based strategies from the Alzheimer's Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations that have been supported by more than 30 leading health and senior care organizations.
Each person who completes CARES® End-of-Life Dementia Care™ is eligible to take the Alzheimer’s Association essentiALZ® Plus End-of-Life Dementia Care certification exam. Individual essentiALZ certification is ideal for staff members at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospice, home and health organizations, adult day programs, governmental and social service agencies, and police, fire, and other first responders.
Note: In order to get certified in essentiALZ Plus End-of-Life Dementia Care, you must first complete CARES® Dementia Basics™ and have Alzheimer’s Association essentiALZ certification. Certifications are good for two years.
