CARES® Dementia Basics is a 4-module (4-hour) online video-based training program that provides caregivers with the core or "basic" information needed for dementia care. It contains many interactive activities and focuses on person-centered care, the changes that happen to thinking skills as dementia progresses, how those changes impact behavior, and how to understand behavior as communication.

The CARES® End-of-Life Dementia Care Online Training Program helps the care team—including the family—understand what is happening to a person with dementia at the end of life. The CARES® Approach equips caregivers with tools and strategies to approach end-of-life care with confidence. The training covers topics such as how to provide comfort care and support to the person with dementia, as well as to family members and other individuals close to him or her.

After completing the CARES Dementia Basics course, you will begin the CARES End-of-Life Dementia Care program where you will learn how to understand what is happening to a person with dementia at the end of life. The training covers topics such as how to provide comfort care and support to the person with dementia, as well as to family members and other individuals close to him or her.

These programs are ideal for all employees at nursing homes including CNAs, nurses, supervisors, social workers, administrators, and activity directors, as well as dietary, laundry, housekeeping, security, and transportation staff. The training can also be used in assisted living facilities, home health organizations, adult day programs, governmental and social service agencies, and by police, fire, and emergency medical personnel ("first responders"). You can also get certified by the Alzheimer's Association® in essentiALZ® and essentiALZ® Plus certifications after you complete the training programs.
